Slightly Choppy
In the salty, industrial boat sheds of Newport Beach, California, you’ll find the art projects of Scott Richards, also known as Slightly Choppy. With his hand-crafted process of art and design, he creates pieces that honour surf culture’s past and present, and crafts artefacts for the future. His current works are hand-crafted flags that celebrate a surfer’s appreciation for their local surf break and creates a banner of identity. His goal… to make artful keepsakes that connect individuals to the spots they treasure most. Always re-imagining ways to pay homage to the locations that ocean goers hold true, Slightly Choppy cuts, stains and stitches one of a kind heirlooms that are reminiscent of good times on the coast. The production of each flag follows a genuine process of hand done typography, letters trimmed from felt, well used stencils, carefree tea-stains, worn canvas, and the ebb and flow of paint that is all sewn together to create unique mementos.
