When buying jeans we recommend never going by tag size alone. Because of the different types of denim, washes and variations in manufacturing processes, there can be significant differences between the tagged size and the actual size. To help with this, all of our jeans are individually measured by hand. To make sure you choose the perfect size, we’ve put together a guide that explains how we measure.
When taking measurements, we recommend using a sewing measuring tape, rather than a tape measure.
Waist
Measured across the back, from front left waist to centre of the top button and from front right waist to the centre of the top button. These three measurements added together gives the waist measurement.
In the example below, 15.25″ + 8.25″ + 8″ gives a waist measurement of 31.5″.
Rise
Measured from the top of the waistband above the top button to the cross point.
In this example, the rise measurement is 9.5″.
Hem
Measured across the bottom of the leg whilst the jean is laid flat.
In this example, the hem measurement is 7.25″.
Inside leg
Measured from the cross point to the hem of the jean. Using a sewing measuring tape to do this will help account for variations in the taper.
In this example, the inside leg measurement is 35″.
