Description

The Rite Stuff x Papa Nui 10.5 oz. Selvedge Denim Sailor Moku Pants sees our first and second brands at TTK teamed up to create a concept collection built around the newly revived, Japanese-milled Amoskeag 1860s selvedge indigo denim – a stunning fabric with a distinct USMC twist. Using the Daybreak work pants as a foundation, these pants have a mid-high rise and a relaxed leg—not too tight, not too loose, but just right. They’ve added USN patch pockets at the rear and USMC P1941 (P-41) front pockets, bringing a military edge reminiscent of the 1930s Sailor Moku pants once spotted in bustling downtown Honolulu before WWII.

This Amoskeag reproduction denim was recently meticulously recreated from original denim made by Amoskeag Manufacturing Company, the world’s largest fabric manufacturer in the 19th century and also known as the original producer of the denim used by Levi’s when they first introduced denim workwear.

The mill in Japan studied original Amoskeag denim samples from the early 1900s, when denim transitioned from natural indigo to synthetic indigo, and successfully reproduced a rich, deep indigo color not found in modern denim. The irregular vertical slub texture has also been faithfully recreated to match vintage samples. For weaving specifications, they used the heaviest standard available in the 1860s— the same weight classification Levi’s referred to as XX.

Brand

The Rite Stuff creates new takes on pre-World War II American workwear, with exceptional attention to detail and focus on quality and ethical production. Whereas most heritage clothing brands focus on the post-war years, The Rite Stuff owner, Bryan Shettig, takes his inspiration from the clothing worn by workers in the early part of the twentieth century.

Influenced by classic pieces of the time and an extensive vintage archive, the brand puts its passion for the history of heritage clothing into each piece they make. The result is tough, functional but incredibly beautiful clothing that is full of period-correct details and that looks just as good today as it would have a century ago.

Authentic, Japanese-milled fabrics and deadstock materials, combined with a production process that closely resembles that of a century ago, means that each piece The Rite Stuff makes is built to last.

Production is overseen in the finest Japanese facilities by John Lofgren & Co., resulting in heritage workwear of unsurpassed authenticity and quality.

Care

The Sailor Moku Pants have been washed once so expect no further shrinkage. Over time the pans will face like a pair of jeans giving them a unique character that reflects the life of the wearer.

When required, wash separately at 30 degrees and hand dry. We recommend avoiding the tumble dryer.
