Papa Nui x The Rite Stuff Sailor Moku Utility Cap

The Papa Nui Sailor Moku Utility Cap utilises a beautiful Japanese repro indigo researched from an original salesman’s swatch of Amoskeag 1860’s selvedge denim. The visor is finished with contrast beach side frog skin camouflage and a selvedge sweatband. The second in a two piece collaboration between our first and second brands at Those That Know, the cap is a limited edition only available from the brands themselves and TTK.

This Amoskeag reproduction denim was recently meticulously recreated from original denim made by Amoskeag Manufacturing Company, the world’s largest fabric manufacturer in the 19th century and also known as the original producer of the denim used by Levi’s when they first introduced denim workwear.

The mill in Japan studied original Amoskeag denim samples from the early 1900s, when denim transitioned from natural indigo to synthetic indigo, and successfully reproduced a rich, deep indigo color not found in modern denim. The irregular vertical slub texture has also been faithfully recreated to match vintage samples. For weaving specifications, they used the heaviest standard available in the 1860s— the same weight classification Levi’s referred to as XX.
