Papa Nui LSO Cap

On the flight deck of the USS Papa Nui, the landing signal officer steadied the paddles in his hands parallel, indicating ’Roger’ to the incoming Corsair Pilot to keep his wings level for the landing. The LSO stood firm. Braced against the rolling of the ship, his yellow stencilled jersey and khaki chino cap with flipped up yellow visor made him visible to the incoming pilot. Suddenly he cut his right paddle across his chest and dropped his left paddle down by his side. The pilot noted the signals and dropped his plane to the deck, the arrest cable caught and the Corsair screeched amidst the smell of hot rubber to a sudden halt.
