In the 1960s, Japan began importing American denim, sparking interest in local denim production. By the 1980s, Japanese jeans brands emerged, focusing on meticulous craftsmanship and traditional production methods. Japanese denim mills, particularly in Okayama, gained prominence for producing premium selvedge denim. The attention to detail, use of natural indigo dyes, artisanal techniques and use of vintage sewing machines set Japanese jeans apart. These brands are now revered for producing the finest jeans in the world.
