Alberton Japan Boa Fleece Outdoor Blanket – Umakhaki

£50.00

The Alberton Japan Boa Fleece Outdoor Blanket is a compact and portable blanket, ideal for long days out in the hills or for lazing around at home. It’s a faithful reproduction of the 1950s American Highpile utilising modern materials and technologies. Its outer uses a new material, Canecaron Protex, that absorbs infrared radiation and warms. We’re hoping you’ll never need to use this feature, but in addition to its flame retardant performance the material has the ability to protect the skin from burns by absorbing infrared radiation when exposed to heat rays such as those given off from an explosion. Things are equally as secure of the back side of the blanket, with the use of a flame retardant and waterproof tent fabric, Alberton Gunmaku, developed specially by the brand.

  • Flame resistant
  • 70cm x 70cm in size
  • Canecaron Protex and Alberton Gunmaku fabrics
  • Protects from infra-red radiation
  • Made entirely in Japan

Brand

Alberton was a large-scale spinning company that existed in Baltimore, Maryland from the end of the 19th century to the early 20th. It was named after the founder’s son, Albert, who established duck cotton as the company’s main product.

Duck cotton is known for its high density, warmth and water repellant properties. Because of this, the US government was a major customer, giving rise to the iconic US Army Duck, which was first used in World War I and is still used today. The great depression struck, Alberton was acquired and the name was lost to history until 2016 when the brand was resurrected in Japan.

Using archival material and vintage pieces, the original US Army Duck has been painstakingly recreated using the exact same materials and processes as were used a century ago. Alberton Japan now offers a range of clothing and accessories created with this versatile, outdoor-focussed fabric for the modern market.
