There are at least 89 separate steps involved in the creation of Horween Chromexcel Leather and the entire process takes 28 days from start to finish. The leather is done using naturally occurring pigments and the job is undertaken by only the most skilled leather workers.
The name Chromexcel comes from the base tan, which is done using chrome salts. Steam is used to add the highest quality waxes and oils to the leather. Finally the leather is finished with aniline before being ready for use. The result of this process is a leather with exceptional durability and a soft, supple handle. Over time Chromexcel leather will age beautifully and develop a unique character that reflects the life of its owner.
